Given that "parallel" and "additive" conjunctives such as "soshite", "mata", "sarani", "sonoue", share the same function, it does not imply that they can be replaced one another. That is why even the advanced Japanese learners confuse them and often make errors. This paper focuses on the usage of those conjunctions in real Japanese. A survey with Japanese native speakers was carried out and it was found that the explanations of usage written in Japanese textbooks are different from the result of the survey.
