Legionella strains are known as microorganism which causes pneumonia. Especially, when Legionella grew in the hotspring facilities, there were some accidents in which infected human died. One of the sterilization methods of Legionella in thefacilities, chlorine sterilization is shown by the law of Japanese government. However, there is no amenity in the hot spring facilities,because the chlorine has the peculiar smell. On the other hand, the metal bearing material has been used as antimicrobe andsterilization material. For example, we know that the copper has the sterilization effect, but copper oxide is toxic metal for humanbody. And the silver complex is well known as an antimicrobe material, however, not only the silver is expensive, but also thetoxicity is very high. Therefore, the silver complex has to make an attention to be integration to the material. The titanium is a cheapmetal, and the application such as photocatalyst and synthetic catalyst are applied in widly. Antibacterial material which contains thetitanium has made to combine with the chemical substance, but the effect of the material is not so effective. And, there is no exampleof applying to the antibacterial of Legionella strains, too. Then, we prepared the complexes 1-3 from titanium (IV) ion andalkyl-substituted tris(pyrazolyl)borate ligands (TpR) which are constructed by three nitrogen donors, and examined the antibacterialaction. Legionella erythra JCM 7564 strain was distuributred from Japan Collection of Microorganisms RIKEN BioResource Cente.The complexes 1-3 were prepared by the reaction of titanium (IV) tetraisopropoxide and TpR ligands (R=1-3), in which Tp1 and Tp3are introduced an electron-donating alkyl substituent such as isopropyl and tert-butyl groups into the pyrazoles. On the contrary,Tp2 has electron-attracting CF3 groups. In Ti complex 3, the sterilization effect was shown even in 0.05mg quantity, and it showedthe highest sterilization effect. It was indicated that the complex was very effective as the disinfectant which affected Legionellastrain. Ti complex 3 was equivalently effective at 1/10 quantities of the chlorine, and it expects that is applied by the industry field inthe future.
