• We have previously reported a simple, energy saving, and environmentally-friendly method for extraction of lipids directly from high-moisture microalgae by using liquefied dimethyl ether (DME). In order to verify its versatility, in the current study several natural microalgae were tested. The extraction yield and molecular weight distribution of the lipids by the proposed method were compared to the widely-used Bligh-Dyer's (BD) method. The properties of the extracted product and byproduct was analyzed and evaluated.
