This paper shows the frequency of 196 newly added entries to the kanji table in elementary and junior high school textbooks. First, using a corpus, the total number of kanji in the textbooks was counted. It is understood that many additional kanji from the kanji table had already been found in earlier revisions. The study also examined a variety of school subjects and discovered that these kanji were also included in social studies and art textbooks. The study also looked at the creation of additional kanji vocabulary lists and discusses the features of the vocabulary, with specific reference to the frequency of the country's name and the name "Fuji". The study also discusses the word level and the important vocabulary items used for "hiragana." In conclusion, the study makes instructional recommendations on the basis of its empirical research data on the selection of common kanji.
