This research note argues the necessity of examining possibilities of poetry reading as a language activity to facilitate reorganization of linguistic knowledge in foreign language learners' interlanguage. A review of previous studies reveals that poetry reading prompts learners not only to devote attention to the form they had already learned, but also to question the correctness of the relevant knowledge they possess. Therefore, poetry reading might provide them opportunities to reflect on their knowledge included in their interlanguage. This paper relates poetry reading's characteristics with "noticing the hole" (e.g., Doughty and Williams, 1998) and suggests starting a research project for investigating the effects of poetry reading on interlanguage. Two research topics to be discussed for future studies are presented: the efficiency noticing the hole occurs in poetry reading, and the resulting effects on interlanguage and learners' performance.
