When strong earthquake (Magnitude 7.8) happened in Luzon in July 16, 1990, liquefaction which means boiling out of sand-water mixture with big vibration occurred around cities of Dagupan, Pangasinan and Tarlac. It caused big damage on buildings, bridges, roads, etc. However, sub-surface soil profile deformation by liquefaction which is not seen from surface observation also occurred in many wider places. Disturbance of sandy sub-horizon in the profile is observed in much wider places than places of sand boiling sites. On the other hand, many cases of disturbance of subhorizon in terrace soil which had occurred by old liquefaction can be explained likewise. It should be considered to be a relic of liquefaction, as one of the important soil formation processes. Several new terminologies ar also proposed describing soil profile.
