The purpose of this study was to classify communicative behaviors functionally, and to examine associations of communicative behaviors developmentally. A survey was conducted for caregivers of 351 infants who were 8 to 22-month-olds. Factor analysis of data from the scale of joint attention behavior revealed 2 main factors: "understanding of pointing finger"and "occurrence of pointing finger", and from the scale of social attention behavior revealed 4 main factors : "showing, and imitation", "reaction in novelty situation", "understanding of other's intention" and "notice of other's emotion". Furthermore, correlational and multipli regression analyses indicated that "understanding of other's intention" and "notice of other'semotion" had a strong influence on "understanding of pointing finger", and "showing, giving and imitation" had a strong influence on "occurrence of pointing finger"
