This study reports English courses which used negotiation theory and practice in developing students' interactive communication skills. English negotiation courses have generally been offered at universities as a course in vocational business communication skills. Thus, there is little literature focusing on the effectiveness of negotiation theory and practice in enhancing general interactive communication competence of students. In this study, we used video clips of negotiation simulations students took part in at the end of the semester, and analyzed their linguistic performance. The analysis suggests that successful negotiations with win-win outcomes are potentially correlated with successful interactive communication such as question/answer and confirmation/response. Another finding is that successful negotiation results can be achieved even with simple expressions with basic structure.
