This study presents a case utilizing the self-solving orientation type of developmental counseling approach, with reference to the developmental therapy proposed by Yamamoto(2003), Ivey (1991) and Tamase (1993) and the solution-focused brief therapy developed by DeJong and Berg (1999). This approach promotes the sensorimotor, concrete-operational, and formal-operational level image of the clients in a problem-solving situations, based on the following theory: 1) clients attempt to solve problem; 2) clients are able to image situations in which the problem can be solved; 3) clients possess valuable resources and solutions within themselves. This approach was used during a short-term and intensive counseling program with a student who was unable to make close friends and felt lonely after entering a school. The student subsequently found the resources and solutions within herself and was able to solve her problem.
