This paper shows that how significant a role Japanese conglomerates have played at the core of Japan's "Economic Miracle" . Even now, statistics show that the six major conglomerate groups (Mitsubishi, Mitsui, Sumitomo, Fuyo, Sanwa, and Daiichi-Kangin) account for about 30% of the country'sGNP (4,000billion USD). I divide these conglomerates into 3 categories historically and functionally: pre Zaibatsu group; Bank-vcentered conglomerate; Mega Manufacture oriented conglomerates and pick up a representative of each category as case study. In line with the above, I will analyze Japanese conglomerates using case studies in order to define the typical Japanese conglomerate styles and to identify their distinctive features.
