• Kurt Vonnegut (1922-2007) depicted a number of imaginary spaces in his novels and short stories. Partlybecause of these imaginary spaces or fantastic stories, he would be thought as a Science Fiction writer or thelike and accordingly his later novels have not been highly evaluated. Some of his novels, however, have beenconsidered as one of the exemplary postmodern fictions in the late 20th century. This paper reconsiders hisimaginary spaces in an earlier novel and a short story and it examines the imaginary space in Galdpagos, one ofhis later novels. It reveals that his imaginary spaces would help to depict the collapse of binary oppositionsamong our ordinary lives.
