Deoxycholate agar method is generally used as a voluntary inspection method of coliforms in milk products. However, this method takes many times to estimate qualitative analysis results. Therefore, the development of the rapid detection system for microorganisms in milk products has been required. In the present work, we researched a rapid detection method for microorganisms in milk by dielectrophoresis (DEP) method using new dielectrophoretic equipment with Micro-channel Device. Escherichia. coli was used as a simulated microorganism in order to assume measurement at an actual inspection process of milk products. As results, E. coli was trapped on electrode arrays at 2.0 MHz in E. coli mixed samples. Meanwhile, milk constituents such as erythrocytes were hardly trapped under the same DEP conditions in non-mixed samples. These results of DEP experiments suggest that the DEP method with the dielectrophoretic equipment is available for an effective and rapid detection of microorganisms in milk products.
