Determination of Hyoscyamine, Scopolamine, Anisodamine and Anisodine in Solanaceous Plants by High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Thirty eight samples of eleven Solanaceous species, were analyzed for their tropane alkaloids content, namely anisodine, anisodamine, scopolamine and hyoscyamine, using reversed phase ion-pair HPLC. The HPLC method was able to determine anisodamine and anisodine which had been hardly able to be detected by the TLC method. The analytical results of scopolamine and hyoscyamine obtained by the HPLC method were similar to those obtianed by the TLC method.
