From an ethyl acetate extract of Asarum forbesii, four new constituents, asarumins A (1), B (2), C (3) and D (4), were isolated along with elemicin (5), trans-asarone (6) and linoleic acid (7). The structures of the new compounds, 1, 2, 3 and 4, were elucidated as methyl (2S, 3S)-3-benzoyloxy-2-hydroxy-2-isopropylbutyrate, methyl (2R)-2-benzoyloxyisopentanoate, methyl (2R)-2-transcinnamoyloxyisopentanoate and methyl (2R)-2-piperonyloyloxyisopentanoate, respectively. Compounds 1, 2, 3 and 7 weakly inhibited passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) in rats, but the others were inactive.
