Niigata Power Systems Co., Ltd (NPS) developed a new gas turbine engine "NGT3B" for a large-scale standby generator set to meet latest market demands in Japan. The engine output power is 2600kW with high thermal efficiency of 24.7%. It is first time for an emergency use to cover the electric power of 3000 kVA with a single gas turbine. And NGT3B increases the power range to 6000kVA with twin gas turbine. This paper describes design features of the major engine components and the enclosure set. Testing results regarding to engine performance and durability are also shown. The each component is modified for a high power and a high efficiency based on previous technology of NPS gas turbines. In engine durability tests, 1200 times engine starting and 400 hrs loaded continues running are done. The test results from overhaul inspections become a no problem. For the enclosure design, wait saving is achieved without increasing noise.
