Optic remote sensing now is used widely in industries for various mapping purpose, due to its ability to map huge large area without massive field measurement. This optic remote sensing's advantage is beneficial for concession forest management from forest cover change analysis, standing stock estimation, delineation plantation forest, planning harvesting area, etc. However, in Indonesia, there are many concession forests lie within rain forest which is covered by cloud almost along the year, limiting the utilization of optic remote sensing as light wave cannot penetrate the cloud cover. SAR, synthetic aperture radar, is another remote sensing technology using longer wave instead of light wave, hence potentially to be used in rain forest concession area. Therefore, we made a preliminary research using a pair of dual polarization palsar L band to examine the power of SAR image in a concession forest at Central Borneo, Indonesia. We used 2 palsar images from 2009 and 2010, composed by HH, HV and HH/HV polarization for band red, green, and blue, to delineate the harvesting and planting area between those years. From the comparison of those images, harvesting area was able to be detected from band HH, while planting was not due to short time distance between palsar acquisition dates. This result was supported by the ground check and field data from concession forest management, proved that SAR image was working in rain tropical concession forest. Therefore, it is essential to consider SAR image for others purpose such as standing stock estimation.
