• Over the past years, groundwater resources in Japan have suffered from an unappreciated evaluation due to the past environmental problems such as land subsidence caused by heavy pumpage of groundwater. However, it is also true that economical value of groundwater resources has kept on rising due to world crisis of water shortage associated with global warming. A great concern on uncontrolled use of groundwater has been arising in recent years since well-reserved Japanese forests have been purchased by global funds and groundwater can be withdrawn by economy-oriented land owners without legal control. This paper discusses on real value of groundwater resources together with groundwater management to be established as soon as possible.
