This paper describes a shape optimization technique considering the interference with the other parts or tools. During the shape optimization of mechanical structures, some geometrical constraint conditions, namely, its manufacturing process, or interference with the other parts or tools must be considered. The author and the other researchers developed some shape restriction techniques based on the traction method in previous researches. However, the usability and the stability of them are sometimes insufficient for the consideration of interference in actual applications. In this research, a measurement of the part of the design domain overlapped with the interference domain is evaluated and defined as a constraint function. According to this definition, the consideration of interference can be rewritten to the constraint condition of that the constraint function is zero. This approach was implemented based on a general-purpose structural optimization software, and applied to some optimization problems. The validity of this approach was confirmed by numerical results.
