Commercially available samples of the crude drug Ampelopsis Radix (Japanese name; Byakuren) can be grouped into three types (Types I, II and III). From Type II samples, seven oleanolic acid glycosides and chondrillasterol 3β-D-glucopyranoside were isolated. The result suggested that the source plant of the present Type II samples, belongs to the Momordica genus of the family Cucurbitaceae.
