In this paper, we propose the polarization diversity for enhancement of the maritime VHF communi-cations. The multiple antennas system requires an antenna separation of 5〜10 λ to keep the correlation coefficient below 0.7 for the space diversity, so this may be difficult to implement in a maritime VHF system. On the other hand, polarization device technique allows 2 co-located antennas by using a micro-strip technique. From this reason, polarization technique is a practical method of attaining diversity. From the simulated results, the polarization diversity of a maritime VHF system shows better BER performance than that of the conventional reception diversity based on vertical antenna.
