A narrower pulse compression is proposed. It is applied to binary codes compressed to several sub-pulses by a matched filter. The narrower pulse compression compresses the binary code to a pulse width narrower than the reciprocal number of the bandwidth of the transmitting signal by using mismatched filters that limits the magnitude of the frequency characteristics of the inverse filter. The pulse compression can be then compressed to different pulse widths and gives radars multi-range resolution. The improvement factor for signal-to-noise ratio and side-lobe characteristics are estimated for the pulse compression.
