This study investigated the effects of "extensive reading activities" on reading speed. The data was gathered in one-semester English classes at a women's junior college in Japan. The gain of reading speed was statistically significant in the group of slow readers. The difference of reading speed between the group of fast readers and that of slow readers became smaller from 56.87w/m to 35.03w/m. In addition, the motivation of studying English became greater.
