Microwave irradiation in the presence of solvent and acid was applied for liquefaction of biomass from the woody body of conifer. The effects of microwave irradiation temperature and time, solvent, and acid concentration on solubilization of biomass were investigated. The investigation results showed that solubility of woody body was affected by the kind of the solvent and acid. We selected ethylene glycol as solvent and sulfuric acid as catalyst for this system. The reaction of the liquefaction of the wood biomass by micro wave treatment was very speedy and not affected by the moisture in the woody body. The solubility of the woody body by temperature was different between Hemi cellulose, lignin and cellulose. So this technology of liquefactions of the wood biomass by micro wave treatment is good for separation of woody ingredients. The analysis for fuel use and its elementary components showed that the bio-oil could use as the fuel of boiler. Nuclear magnetic resonance analysis of the products suggested that the molecule structure was suitable for fuel and the feedstock for chemical product. In this way, this solvolysis system for the wood biomass by micro wave treatment was good efficiency and compact. It was suitable technology for the forestry in Japan.
