Drainage network generation and measurement based on digital elevation data

A framework for the topographic information processing is introduced to extract drainage networks from digital elevation data. The algorithm is based on the principle that surface water runs down to the lowest point. The stream networks on grid map are expressed by the address chain that points to downstream grid point. Drainage basin, metric information of stream, longitudinal distance from the downstream end, and other topographic parameters can be obtained by using this method. The Horton analysis can be examined on the digitized drainage network.
