The amount of plastic waste reaches about 10 million tons per year currently, and 25% or more of this waste plastic is being placed in land fills or simply incinerated without any effective use. The low bulk density is demanding of the final disposal dump because it is often deposited in the shape of containers or in a foam or porous state, and in case of incineration chlorine contained in the waste plastic generates poisonous substances such as dioxins. The fluctuation in quality and content of harmful chlorine is a limitation for the recycling of waste plastic, although plastic has a high calorific value similar to that of fossil fuels.
