In South Korea research interest in concentrated solar thermal technology came to be taken first in the middle of 1990s by KIER (Korea Institute of Energy Research), while low-temperature solar activities have a longer history with extensive researches and nation wide disseminations from the early of 1980s. Though the amount of annual DNI(Direct Normal Insolation) of Korea is assessed to be around 30-50% of high insolation areas of other countries, the intensity of insolation in a clear day is high enough to keep our concentrated solar thermal researches valid. Up to now, KIER has performed a number of research projects covering different types of solar thermal power generations and solar chemistry. In this paper a brief summary of KIER's concentrated solar thermal research activities were introduced. This paper included some recent accomplishments and current status on KIER's dish-Stirling power system, power tower related activities, solar reforming research, solar furnace construction, and thermal storage researches.
