• This is a report of an attempt to improve the reading ability of low English proficiency college students through a reading technique named "Sentence Downsizing." In this paper, some causes of the difficulties low proficiency English learners face in the process of reading English passages are identified and analyzed. A classroom activity to deal with the reading problems of low English proficiency students and the results of the activity are presented.
