Concerning an electric sheath and a temperature boundary layer near a cooled electrode some experiments and theories in a shock tube, a DC MHD generator and a MHD accelerator are reviewed briefly. A theory on the temperature boundary layer near a cooled electrode by the author is presented. It shoes that the temperature boundary layer is determined locally in a good approximation under some conditions satisfied by a practical MHD generator. This conclusion can be connected simply to the similarity solution given by Kerrebrock in the case of a MHD accelerator.
