This paper describes an inventory of coastal fauna known among the Serers- Niominkas, an ethnic group of fishers-farmers who live in the islands in the mangrove estuary of Saloum Delta of the Republic of Senegal. A total of 130 vernacular names are collected, the etymology of which comes from various origins. The vocabulary suggests their profound knowledge on the coastal environment and the history of relation with other people from outside.
