• This paper will present the rationale and outcomes on materials produced for students atNumazu National College of Technology (NNCT), who need to learn the fundamentals of writingacademic abstracts. After the literature review on written discourse, the typical structures of theacademic papers will be introduced. In Section 3, I will describe the problems in our ownteaching/learning situation. In the following section, an explanation of the implications andrelevance of the coursebook unit will be made. In conclusion, I will briefly summarize someimportant points in creating the teaching materials and applying them to the students at NNCT.
