Although float measurements have been conducted as a standard method for river-discharge monitoring, float measurements have significant measuring errors mainly due to evaluation of lateral and vertical velocity distributions from observed velocity of moving floats. In the present study, we attempt to improve the accuracy of river discharge with float measurements by using numerical simulation for the evaluation of the lateral velocity distribution and also introducing modified coefficients of float obtained from the ADCP measurements. The discharges of the float measurements with the previous and present evaluations (Case1 and 2) are compared with those of the ADCP measurements. The results reveal that the relative errors in Case1 and Case2 are 22% and 8%, respectively. This fact demonstrates that the present method is effective to improve the evaluation of river discharge with float measurements.
