Granular materials and powders have peculiar mechanical properties, because they are aggregates of discrete particles under the influence of short-range non-linear interactions. We propose a novel way for the modelization of interactions between ellipses which can also be applied to ellipses in two dimensions. For the latter case, we have already verified the correct dependence of the sound velocity in the particle aggregate on the material parameters. Further, a generalization for more accurate material properties and for superquadrics is feasible. The computation is not only limited to the interaction between convex particles, but can also be used to model the rotation of an ellipsoid on a convex watchglass.
