This paper presents a novel speed control scheme for a two-phase synchronous reluctance motor (TPSynRM). A three-leg two-phase inverter is used to drive the TPSynRM. The torque of the TPSynRM is controlled with a direct torque control (DTC) method. DTC uses the space vectors of the three-leg inverter. The speed controller has two-degree of freedom (TDOF) structure to design the system stability and reference response independently. Besides, an adaptive control technique is employed to adjust the TDOF controller automatically. The parameters of the TDOF controller are calculated based on the identified parameters. The motor speed and the identified parameters are shown in transient state. Differences of the speed responses are revealed when the system poles and zero are changed.
