• The purpose of this thesis is to study relationship between Christian theology and theory of literature in theology of Uemurah Masahisah who was the most prominent first-generation protestant theologian of Japan in Meiji-era. In this discussion, we examined that Uemurah put emphasis not only faith, which is the essence of Christian theology, but also on the theory of literature as an intermediary tools lead to Christian faith. This is the Uemurah's unique understanding of literature. I suggested that this Uemurah's theological thought can be evaluated as sermon to culture and dialectical theology in the religiously plural society.
