Miller/Johnson-Laird (1976) made an extensive revision of traditional theories of language perception and conception, and built as a theoretical model what they call procedural semantics. It has two- step process: the sentence is translated into an appropriate program and then the program may be executed. We were especially interested in the general control instruction "instruct (x, y) ," which they introduced among others as operations the conceptual system can perform. Suggested by the notions of modality and description they assigned on the two arguments x and y, we conceived context and proposition components to be main sources for sentence information. Taking up a simple sentence, we then showed its syntactic information identified from operating syntactic networks, and semantic and pragmatic information implicit in both components of the sentence. In a sense context and proposition are connected with each other by a hypotactic relation. In this respect it is stimulating that forms of complementizers derived from the base node COMP roughly correspond to metalinguistic forms of indirect speech as reformulating context and proposition of utteranace types such as assertion, question, and command.
