Sliding tests were performed on three kinds of W-based composite materials containing solid lubricant for electric sliding contacts, and the sliding surfaces were observed under an atomic force microscope (AFM) in tapping mode, and under a surface potential microscope (SPoM) and an electron probe micro analyzer (EPMA). Next, three-dimensional surface analysis was conducted on the conductive metal distribution and contact-spot level difference distribution, and it was found that the spot conductive portions that were large in level difference and near the electrode on the other side were lower in the surface potential. It was also found under EPMA that the grayscale pictures of the sliding surfaces showed the distribution of both conductive metals and transferred elements.
