The stored magnet energy density of air and soft magnetic materials which has the zero residual magnetization is 1/2BH. In the operation experiment process of permanent magnet actuator (PMA), non-conservation of system energy is found when 1/2BH is applied to calculate the stored magnetic energy density of the permanent magnet. Afterwards the magnetic field energy expression of permanent magnet is derived from both when work is done by external force and when the excited current change the operation point of permanent magnet. It shows that the stored magnet energy density is the triangle area in B-H plane which consists of Br point, operation point and the pedal from work point to B axis. And it shows that it is an special case that the stored magnet energy density of air and soft magnetic materials which has zero residual magnetization is 1/2BH. And the corresponding physical meanings are clarified. Afterwards, the superposition principle is applied to derive the magnet energy calculation method of permanent magnet, which is simple and has a clear physical meanings. This energy expression is used to analyze the dynamic process of the PMA theoretically and the experimental analysis is applied. The stored magnetic energy expression is verified by the experimental results. This method provides the foundation of the optimal design of permanent magnetic actuator. And the confusion over the stored magnet energy of permanent , which is generally considered as 1/2BH, is clarified.
