A long-life and light-weight wild animal tracking system has been developed incorporating GPS receiver in non-internet environment and ZigBee module for small animals. The meshed ZigBee module realized easy collection of tracking fixes data and battery saving. Additionally, we experimented on the GPS receiver's particular wakeup timing and extension of its active condition until the GPS receiver receives next sub frame 3 message. As a result, these simple rules realized high fix rate and short TTFF.
