The optimization technique, which optimizes a geometric-transform parameter (i.e., the translation) by the cross-correlation between the ortho-rectified satellite image and the corresponding DEM shaded relief image, is one of the geometric correction methods. We have modified the algorithm of the optimization technique with the phase-only correlation to improve the efficiency of calculation and the accuracy of estimated parameters. However, there is a possibility that the accuracy of the estimates essentially depends on the sun elevation because the sun elevation is one of the references on the DEM shaded relief image. In this paper, we investigated the influence of sun elevation to the translation estimates by the modified optimization technique with Landsat-5 TM images of four different seasons in the same area.
