This study described the method of improvement of slippage between webs and rollers. At first, the concept of micro-grooved roller is introduced, and then theoretical model for estimating the slippage onset velocity under the transportation of webs by the micro-grooved roller is formulated. The predicted results are compared with the experimental data to verify the applicability of the prediction model of slippage. Moreover, web-wrinkling condition, which is the trade-off relation with slippage condition, is also considered in the modeling. From the theoretical and experimental results, it is confirmed that the micro-grooved roller is very effective to improve the slippage of webs under transportation.
