In metal machining, cutting condition characterizes the state of its process, directly affecting cutting time, product quality, and production cost. It is therefore required to make products under the optimum cutting condition. One effective solution is to develop a practical methodology of cutting condition optimization directly applicable to daily operations on the factory floor. In this paper, as its first step, its concept and a model of shear angle prediction are proposed. As illustrations of its validity, we deliver, the shear angle prediction formula for carbon steel, S45C (AISI 1045), and draw comparisons with multiple experimental results.
