Recently, applications of metamaterials to negative refractive index lenses using composite right/left handed transmission line has been studied. Negative refraction phenomenon has been investigated by a flat, and a concave lens. And metamaterials using dielectric resonators were proposed as low-loss structure for high frequency. However, the availability of the metamaterial lens has not been investigated. Authors have investigated the availability of the metamaterial lens for wide angle beam scanning. And effects of the improvement of beam scanning characteristics and the miniaturization of the lens antenna using the metamaterial lens were clarified by ray-tracing method. In this report, a metamaterial lens antenna using dielectric resonators for wide angle beam scanning is presented as an applicative antenna. The lens antenna is composed of the radiator, the parallel-plate waveguide and the metamaterial lens. Radiation characteristics and the loss of the metamaterial lens are discussed. And the validation of the design of the metamaterial lens antenna is clarified through the experiment.
