In this paper, the system design considerations of MIMO for LTE and IMT-Advanced (including IEEE 802.16m and LTE-A) will be analyzed within this paper. The spec, for IMT-Advaced (IEEE 802.16m and LTE-A) will be briefly introduced within this paper. The system designing parameters within the IEEE 802.16m & LTE will be investigated. This paper provides some design considerations of pilot structure for 2-antenna IEEE802.16m. Different pilot patterns are assigned for mobiles when they are moving with different speeds or when they are in different speed zones. System performances are simulated when mobiles are in different speed zones and when different pilot patterns are considered. From the simulation results we conclude that when the mobile speed is low we can use few pilots to get the same results as those obtained by exploiting dense pilots. When the mobile speed is low but we use the pilot pattern designed for high mobility, there are some extra SNR margins can be obtained.
