A Computer Aided Detection, CAD, system is implemented using an FPGA development board to recognize cancer in Mammogram. The image is pre-processed using Zone detection and 2D Wavelet Transform in MATLAB. This CAD system consists of 4 blocks: the first and second blocks are the Rank Filter and Segmentation of the image, in those blocks the histogram is settled and the image turns into a binary vector, the last two, Back-Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) and Recognition of cancer deduce from the image results of the training data to recognize cancer in mammograms. This algorithm is programmed in VHDL using Quartus II of ALTERA and implemented in FPGA, because FPGAs have proven not only to be highly effective reducing the processing time especially in video and image applications but also to attain a level that makes possible the parallel processing in real time. Besides, a Log-Sigmoid Transfer Function table is created to avoid heavy mathematics calculations.
