On a Soft-input Decoding Algorithm of Concatenated LT Codes

We propose a concatenated coding scheme using error correcting and LT codes as the inner and outer codes, respectively, for noisy channel. In the decoding algorithm, soft-input and soft-output maximum likelihood decoding is applied to the inner code and the obtained soft-output values are handed over to the outer LT decoding as the soft-input values. Computer simulation results show that the proposed concatenated coding scheme provides better error performance than the concatenated coding scheme not using the soft-output values in the proposed concatenated coding scheme over an additive white Gaussian noise channel using binary phase shift keying modulation.
