The aims of this paper are to investigate the relationship between work-life balance (WLB) policies and firm performance and to make a proposal to promote the WLB policies in the society. Regression analysis shows that the WLB policies have a positive effect on firm performance, and if combined with equal opportunity policies, its effect is even more enhanced; thus, implementation of the WLB policies brings benefit to the firms. In order for the firms not to retreat from the WLB policies during a recession, it is suggested for the government to prepare market incentives for them. One example is to set up regulations on firms' information disclosure of WLB as a part of labourrelated CSR and the other example is to encourage the pension fund to invest in such firms' equities as a part of SRI, so that job seekers, consumers and investors can monitor the firms and the firms adopting the WLB policies can see more positive effect in recruitment, sales and stock prices through the market mechanism.
