Natural zeolite fine particles were ElectroPhoretically Deposited (EPD process) on metal substrates to prepare special composite materials ("zeolite module"), which can adsorb various ions efficiently from a solution/atmosphere. In the process, we tried the electrophoretic co-deposition of a binding material, own-made silica sol, with zeolite in order to increase durability of the deposit. Starting natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) was finely ground by planetary potmilling into sub-micrometer range and dispersed in ethanol. The particles in the suspension were deposited on a stainless-steel supporter (a screwed bar) by EPD with/without the silica sol. The deposited particles with silica sol were more durable against peeling off than the ones without silica sol.
