Changes in color and surface gloss of various dental porcelains produced by various surface finish treatment methods (polishing by two different porcelain-polishing kits (SofLex and Ceramiste), polishing by diamond paste, self-glazing) were investigated. Changes in surface color (ΔE^*ab) and gloss (8°) of sample disks were evaluated quantitatively by using a spectrophotometer at each polishing and finish step. The effects of polishing system and finishing method on color change were differed with dental porcelains. However, except for one kind of porcelain, the color change was not prominent, below the clinical perceptible limit (ΔE^*_<ab>〜3.3). The surface gloss (8°-gloss) of dental porcelain increased with diamond paste polishing and self-glazing. Surface finish method affected the changes in surface color and gloss for various kinds of dental porcelains.
