The shape of the traction-separation curve (cohesive law) investigated plays an importance role in the cohesive zone model approach. In this study, a general cohesive law is proposed based on the damage mechanics concept, in which a damage variable D represents the fracture process. Two kinds of sandwiched cantilever in the crack initiation tests are used to investigate the model. The parameters charactering the cohesive law are calibrated by fitting the load-displacement curves obtained by the experiments and the simulations. Moreover, the work of interface separation per unit area under the cohesive traction-separation displacement curve is calibrated as well.
