IPv6 is the next generation of the Internet, which is proposed with the experiences of using IPv4 Internetworking for about 20 years. It is supposed that IPv6 will replace IPv4 as daily internet access gradually from now on. And on the other hand, multimedia transmission is one of the most important technologies for the professional or personal usages. And for multimedia transmission, IEEE1394 is frequently and popularly used. So, we have an idea to make IEEE1394 to be IPv6-capable and transfer Multimedia packed by IPv6 through IEEE1394 interface, which takes the advantages of IEEE1394 in high performance for Audio/Video Data transmission. The main work is to construct a new IPv6 network system with IEEE1394 and Ethernet equipped. For the purpose of such a network, we propose a network driver for IEEE1394 available to transfer IPv6 packets as well as IPv4's.
